Caroline Jones Winters grew up dabbling in art. Her parents recognized her abilities and encouraged her interest and progress in various classes and activities. She graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 1978 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She began studying watercolor in 1990 while continuing her career as a free-lance calligrapher. After selling her first paintings in the summer of 1996, she ended her calligraphy work to concentrate on her watercolor floral portraits. Her love of flowers and gardening experience blossomed into a new career that has been filled with shows, gallery sales and a steady flow of commission work.
Caroline lives with her husband Chuck in Germantown , Tennessee where they have created and tend extensive gardens. They have a grown son, Josh. She is a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists, having been selected for inclusion in their juried exhibits. She is a member of the Tennessee Watercolor Society, the Suburban Garden Club and the West Tennessee Iris Society. She is a newly accredited garden/exhibition judge of the American Iris Society.
Caroline has mastered the art of taking a perfect bloom and capturing its soul on paper. Her watercolor floral portraits are indeed portraits of flowers, depicted just as they grow in the garden at the peak of their perfection. The flowers portrayed in full sunlight are so lifelike and accurately rendered that at a distance they are often mistaken for photographs until the viewer moves in for a closer look. Viewers are often surprised to discover her paintings are indeed watercolors, as they are portrayed in deep true-to-life color, a quality not typically used in watercolors. Her line control and color management are again atypical of watercolor medium and indicative of her artistic skill. Each blossom commands the page and stuns you with its unique structure and joy.
